Ambulance Call Analysis by Geographic Characteristics in a Seoul Metropolitan City

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study is to analyze the data and to find characteristics of ambulance service demands of Seoul Metropolitan City (SMC) with the community variables and ambulance call data. And the results of this study could also provide a basis for the resource planning of ambulance personnel and equipments considering different characteristics of each community. Results are as follows; 1) Areas of higher transportation rate were Nowon-gu and Jungranggu (69.2%), areas of lower transportation rate were Seocho-gu (56.6%), Jung-gu (58.8%), and Jongno-gu (59.3%) in SMC. 2) Areas of higher non-transportation (dry run) rate were Seocho-gu (43.5%), Jung-gu (41.2%), and Jongno-gu (40.7%). 3) Areas of higher transportation rate to Hospital level were Jongno-gu (87.63%), Jung-gu (84.6%), and Yongdeungpo- gu (83.2%), otherwise areas of higher transportation rate to Local Clinics level were Gangnam-gu (8.0%), Seocho-gu (4.7%), and Mapo-gu (1.2%). 4) Area of the highest ambulance calls on weekend was Jung-gu (15.1%), area of the highest ambulance calls on holliday was Nowon-gu (14.9%). 5) Correlations between Call demand and regional factors have very significant relations in day-time occupanies, elder ages, young ages, etc.
